It’s alarming how women have drastically transformed through the years. I could only resent the rising ideals of feminism and liberalism that are spreading like a forest fire and consuming the hearts of the so called “independent” women. However “liberating” it is for the “women of today”, im afraid its deviating from the kind of a WOMAN God has designed us to be from the beginning of time. Today, women are encouraged to be aggressive, competitive, and liberated. Sounds uplifting? Come to think of it, are the “women of today” really experiencing liberty?

Let’s first look at the picture of the modern woman (as dictated by liberal society). They wrestle with the idea that women are degraded, thus, they need to prove themselves by competing with MEN. They love the saying “There’s nothing that Men can do that WE can’t do”. and they glory in the thought that is not, by any means, possible. In the beginning, God created man and woman DIFFERENT from each other. This difference is even evident in our own biological, physical bodies. We look, think, and feel so differently from men. A FACT, we cannot deny..we SHOULD not deny. God has designed man so differently from women so that when they are communed, they compliment and complete each other. With that, it is safe too say that there’s no point comparing ourselves to men. Nor is there any sense in competing with them because THERE IS NO POINT OF COMPARISON; and we are not suppose to compete with them but to be in UNION with them. We are made differently from them. We are, however, designed to complement them. The Bible clearly said, that we, women, are created to be the perfect help-meet and partner of men. It did not say, that we are the perfect COMPETITOR.

It saddens me to think that, instead of enjoying our BEING A WOMAN, we rebel against it and try to become a creature we are not. The Woman, as described in the Bible is not, by any means, degraded. They may have been given a rather different role as that from the man, but it doesn’t imply any degredation of self-worth. Besides, as Christians, we should not be focused on ourselves, we already died to “self”, and our only preoccupation should be, from now and eternity, to GLORIFY GOD and ENJOY HIM forever. And how to glorify Him is to DO THAT WHICH PLEASES HIM…that which is according to HIS WILL. What, then, is His will for us, women?

1 Tim 2: 9-11 ” in like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;…”

FIRST, God designed women to be MODEST. The Bible instructs us to dress with shamefacedness and sobriety. That simply means, we should present ourselves in a manner that is not offensive and provocative to anybody..especially to MEN. Let us be aware of the way we “arrange” oursleves. Let us do so with much thought and regard so that we will not cause our Christian brothers to sin when they see us. We can help them avoid their tendencies to sin by simply presenting ourselves with decency and sobriety.

“…But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works…”

The first dealt with our physical appearance. The next (and the most important), deals with our CHARACTER…the way we conduct ourselves. The Bible says we ought to behave in such a way that proffesses godliness. If we say we are a Christian, we should walk and talk like the CHRIST who made us CHRISTians. Looking at who Christ is, He is never proud nor arrogant. He is MEEK, always in subjection to the WILL of the Father. as Christian Women, let us stride the steps of Christ and by His grace, live the life of His meekness and humility in EVERYTHING.

“…Let the women learn in silence with all subjection…”

Now, the Lord wants us to keep our cool. This, probalbly is the hardest part of BEING A WOMAN. I understand that there are certain instances when we are tempted to be assertive in our dispositions and opinion. Let us learn to be in subjection to the will of God. A pastor was asked how he thinks the most beautiful woman looked like and i quote ” she must be MUTE”. Mute in her fleshly dispositions. Mute in her assertive (that eften leads to nagging) arguments; always seeking first to understand than to be understood. I know this sounds really difficult to achieve, that’s why we need the GRACE of GOD to enable us.

The silence can also be viewed in the manner we deal with our emotions. We, women, are designed by God to RESPOND and never to INITIATE. Initiation is the responsibility of the man. Ours is only to RESPOND to their initiation. Remember, we do not have to devise any initiation to get the attention of the man God has prepared for us. In the first love story recorded in the Bible, God lead the woman to the man, and when the man saw her, HE IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED HER and said ” you are the flesh of my flesh and the bone of my bones” (Gen 2:23). Eve didn’t have to do anything so that Adam would recognize her. She simply FOLLOWED THE LORD. We have nothing to worry about catching any man’s attention. Notice that Eve was CLOSE to God when they walked in the garden towards the man. All we have to do is to MAINTAIN A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD so that we will not miss His perfect will in our lives. my dad would always say “That’s the last thing you should ever worry about. He will just drop like a log when He sees you are ready for the commitment and the responsibility attached to it”.

All these can only be done BY THE GRACE OF GOD. It may seem too much to ask from us, but if it gives glory to His name, we Christian women should be striving to yield to this design. Let us “enlist” ourlseves to God’s “training school” in the course of BEING A GODLY WOMAN and allow Him to work in our lives according to His will. Let us enjoy BEING A WOMAN according to God’s design and completely yield to His likeness.

This principle has helped me understand God’s will for us women, and i should say i am still a work in progress. I hope you too will come to appreciate our role and privileges as women. Embrace them and enjoy them.
